The song is from the 1971 album "Just As I Am," produced by Booker T. Jones. The song was released as a single in September 1971 and became a breakthrough hit in Withers' career, reaching number six on the US R&B chart and number three on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was inspired by the 1962 film. "Days of Wine and Roses." The song was released as a B-side to another song, "Harlem," but it went on to achieve incredible success.
