Box Tops - The Letter

"The Letter" is a song written by Wayne Carson and first recorded by the American rock band The Box Tops in 1967. The song became the group's first and most famous hit, reaching number one on the charts in the United States and Canada.

The hit musical "The Letter" is a soul song that launched the career of singer Alex Chilton and inspired other artists to record their covers, sometimes with very good commercial results. Especially famous is the performance of Joe Cockera, an English rock singer. Rolling Stone magazine placed the band's original The Box Tops at No. 372 on its list of the 500 best songs of all time, and in 2011 the single was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
