Music video description
Bruce Springsteen is an American singer and songwriter who needs no introduction, especially to fans of old hits. The singer was born Long Branch, New Jersey, in 1949. From a teenager he was drawn towards music and thanks to his mother he got his first guitar. In today's post, I would like to introduce you to the song that was his first big international hit. It's about the song Dancing in the Dark from his best-selling album Born in the U.S.A.. It was the first single to promote that album, which sold 1 million copies in the United States alone. Interestingly, Springsteen wrote this song overnight, just after his producer asked him to write a single to promote his next album. Bruce was not thrilled about this, reportedly stating that "I've already written 70 songs, you want another one! Write one yourself!" However, despite this reaction, he sat down and wrote a song that became one of his biggest hits. The video for the song was shot over two days including the second day the first concert of his tour to promote the new album. During this concert, Bruce had to play the featured song Dancing in the Dark twice so that the footage needed to create the music video from it could be recorded. The woman Bruce Springsteen pulls from the crowd onto the stage is none other than Courteney Cox, or Monica from the cult TV series Friends, who was a budding actress at the time and who was invited to participate in this video. Bruce himself had no idea that she was an actress and was convinced that she was simply one of the fans who came to the concert and who was chosen for the role.
