"Streets of Philadelphia" is an Oscar-winning song written and performed by American musician Bruce Springsteen. It was featured on the soundtrack to the first film to deal with the HIV/AIDS problem "Philadelphia" in 1993. Released in 1994, the single with the song became a hit in many countries, especially Canada, France, Germany, Ireland and Norway, where it topped the charts. The video for the song, directed by Jonathan Demme and his nephew Ted Demme, begins with scenes showing Springsteen walking along deserted city streets, then through a bustling park and a school playground, with the walk punctuated by stills from the film.
