Music video description
"Don't Leave Me This Way" is a song written by Kenneth Gamble, Leon Huff and Cary Gilbert. The song was first performed by Harold Melvin of the Blue Notes featuring Teddy Pendegrass in 1975. In the following years it became a disco hit for the artist Thelma Houston (1977), and in 1986 the song was included in their repertoire by the British duo The Communards, whose lineup included the famous singer Jimmy Somerville of the band Bronski Beat.
The Communards' version of the song "Don't Leave Me This Way" topped the UK charts while becoming the best-selling recording of 1986. In addition to its success in the UK, the song also found its way onto the Top 40 Billboard Hot 100 list in the US and reached number one on the Billboard Dance list. In the role of vocalist, you can hear here Sarah June Morris who has appeared in many other songs by this band. Her low and deep vocal range contrasted brilliantly with Jimmy Somerville's falsetto.
