Music video description
"Runaround Sue" is a 1961 doo-woop style song originally performed by Dion DiMucci. The song reached the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 list, and Rolling Stone magazine ranked it 351st in its list of the 500 greatest hits of all time, which perfectly illustrates its popularity and importance on the world music scene. The song has sold more than a million copies and achieved gold status in the United States.
The hit song "Runaround Sue" was created during a birthday party in the Bronx. Dion wrote the lyrics, which tell the story of a woman who breaks the hearts of all men. In his biography, the artist admitted that his wife Susan was not the inspiration for the lyrics, as previously thought. The song was recorded in the summer of 1961 at Bell Sound on West 54th Street. Dion was accompanied by excellent studio musicians Teacho Wiltshire (piano), Mickey Baker (lead guitar), Miltion Hilton (bass guitar), Panama Francis (drums), Buddy Lucas (tenor saxophone) and Bucky Pizzarelli (rhythm guitar). The artist was keen that the piece should begin sadly and quietly, quite as if telling a story.
