Music video description
"Money for Nothing" is a song written by Mark Knopfler of the band Dire Straits. The song was included in1985 on the album "Brothers in Arms". After the composition was re-released as a single, it became an international hit. The song caused a lot of controversy due to its lyrics, which were bold for the time. As an interesting fact, the music video for Dire Straits - Money For Nothing was the first to be aired by international TV station MTV Europe on August 1, 1987. The song's lyrics depict the point of view of a blue-collar worker working in the white goods/RTV department of a department store. The man's comments about the musician just shown on MTV included terms like "bangin' on the bongos like a chimpanzee" (Bangin' on the bongoes like a chimpanzee), "little faggot with the earrings and the makeup" (See the little faggot with the earring and the makeup), "money for nothin' and chicks for free" (Money for nothin' and chicks for free). The music video used computer animation in its early version ( vector animation ) and was one of the first music videos to use computer-generated images. The music video was immediately considered groundbreaking because of the technique used and the effect achieved.
