Music video description
"Polk Salad Annie" is a hit song from the repertoire of Elvis Presley. It is a cover of a song originally written and performed by Tony Joe White. The song's lyrics tell the story of a southern country girl's life. Polk or poke sallet, which appears in the song, is actually a dish of greens made from scarlet, which was a regional dish. White's version was quite popular, reaching number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Elvis Presley 's version of the King of Rock and Roll made the song even more famous. It became a key part of the artist's live performances in the early 1970s. Although the charts did not receive this cover as warmly as the original, today it is Presley's rendition that is much more popular. The song has been featured on many of the artist's albums, such as 1970's "One Stage" and "Walk a Mile in My Shoes" and "Best Of Artist Of The Century."
