Music video description
"Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" is a track written by Michael Cleveland for the American group Indeep. Rejane Reggie Magloire and Rose Marie Ramsey are responsible for the vocal side here. The song's lyrics are about a woman who is bored alone at home. She desires to talk to her man, but fails to contact him. When thoughts of leaving her absent lover enter her mind, the DJ plays a hot song and thus saves her life. In the following verses, the woman leaves the house, and the sound of squealing tires suggests that she may have had an accident. The next time around, it turns out that the titular DJ saved her life through a song broadcast on the radio.
The song was mixed by Michael Jaya at New Jersey-based "Eastern Artist Recording Studio." It was released as a single in 1982 and instantly became an internationally successful hit. Interestingly - Rolling Stone magazine recognized the song as one of the greatest treating what it's like to be a girl and how big a role good music can play in life. The song also inspired the 2000 book Last Night a DJ Saved My Life: The History of the Disc Jockey. The group Indeep was not as successful in its later years, so it is assumed to be its only hit song.
