Music video description
"Krakowski Spleen" is a song from the repertoire of the rock bandMaanam, which was included on the group's third studio album called "Nocny Patrol" in 1983. The song also had its English-language version entitled "City Spleen," which was aimed at the European market. The author of the lyrics is singer Olga Kora Jackowska.
Spleen can translate as depression and apathy, and the song is a kind of metaphor for the atmosphere that prevailed in Poland during martial law. One critic wrote that przebój grupy Maanam is a kind of hymn to normalcy and the desire to lead an ordinary, everyday life. Over time, the piece also became a symbol of the ability to free oneself from marasm, gloom, despondency and the possibility of making important changes in everyday life. The text tells the story of Krakow, trapped among heavy clouds, where darkness discourages any activity and time passes sadly slowly.
