Music video description
Madness is one of the most important bands of the second wave of ska that took place in the UK in the late 1970s. In the course of its activities, the group moved somewhat away from ska and toward pop. Although extremely popular on the islands and in Europe, the band was not very successful in the United States, where it produced only one hit Our House. The group was founded by Mike Barson in 1976 in London as the Invaders. After the lineup stabilized, the band changed its name to Madness (one of the Prince Buster songs they played) and released its debut album One Step Beyond. The album was promoted by the singles One Step Beyond, a cover of Buster's song, and the Prince, which the group wrote in tribute to that Jamaican musician. Beginning in 1980 and with the release of the single My Girl, the band hardly disappeared from the top ten charts for the next three years - the musicians put 13 songs on the chart. After the departure of Mike Barson, the band's main composer, in 1984, Madness' career was coming to an end. After two years, the formation broke up. True, in 1988 Suggs, Chas Smash, Lee Thompson and Chris Foreman released the album the Madness, but soon suspended activities again. However, back in 1992, the band reactivated with its original seven-member lineup to play a concert in London's Finsbury Park. The event was called Madstock and became so popular that it continued until 1998. In 1999, Madness wandered into the studio again to record their first album in 14 years, Wonderful. In 2004 the group played a series of concerts as the Dangermen, which ended with the release of the Dangermen Sessions album, which featured only covers, mostly ska and reggae.
