Music video description
"If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next" is a song from the repertoire of the rock band Manic Street Preachers released on August 24, 1998 by Epic Records. The song became the promotional single for the group's fifth studio album titled "This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours." It sold 156,000 copies in its first week and debuted at number one on the UK singles chart. Outside the UK, the hit song, "If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next," reached No. 1 on the charts in Iceland and No. 20 on the charts in Norway and Sweden. Undoubtedly, it is the only hit by the Manic Street Preachers band that has also gained popularity in North America.
The song "If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next" was inspired by the Spanish Civil War and the idealism of Welsh volunteers who willingly fought for the Spanish Republic against the rebel Francisco Franco. Its name was taken from a Republican propaganda poster written in English. The poster depicted a dead child, killed by Nationalists, under a sky filled with bombers. The title warning was at the bottom of the poster and made quite an impression on the musicians.
As a point of interest, it is worth mentioning that the song "If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next" is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the one with the longest title without parentheses.
