Music video description
"Dr. Beat" is the first international single by the American band Miami Sound Machine, featuring Gloria Estefan. The song was included on the group's eighth, but uniquely English-language studio album titled "Eyes of Innocence" in 1984. The song was written by the band's main composer and drummer Enrique Garcia. The song was released in 1984 and was a huge success throughout Europe, topping the charts.
"Dr. Beat" did not gain particular popularity in the United States, unlike the band's later singles. It only reached number 17 on the Hot Dance Club Party chart. Nevertheless, it is considered one of the biggest hits of the band and Gloria Estefan herself.
In 2005, dance artist Mylo mixed the song with his hit "Drop the Pressure" to create another hit called "Doctor Pressure."
The video for the original song, which was shot on the roof of the Bacardi Imports building, features Gloria Estefan, who sings and dances in front of a frenzied crowd. Estefan asks the titular Dr. Beat, played by percussionist Enrique Garcia, to help her heal from the constant dancing. The man takes her to the hospital, then performs tests and surgeries, as a consequence of which the boom box is removed.
