"Lovin' You" from the repertoire of American singer Minnie Riperton comes from her 1974 second studio album Perfect Angel. The singer co-wrote the song with her husband Richard Rudolph, and Rudolph and Stevie Wonder, appearing, however, under the pseudonym Black Bull Productions, are responsible for its production. The song was the fourth single from the album, and was released on March 14, 1975. Less than a month later, on April 5, Lovin' You debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100, while also reaching No. 2 on the UK chart and No. 3 on the Billboard R&B chart. And on April 8, 1975, the song received Gold of RIAA status in the US with sales of more than one million copies.
Minnie Riperton 's song is best known for the singer's use of an impressively high whistle register in the song's middle section. The song also features birdsong, which was reportedly recorded accidentally. Riperton died of cancer in 1979 at the age of just 31. Although it was her only hit, she is still highly respected in the music community today.
