Music video description
Harry Edward Nilsson III is an American singer and songwriter known as Harry Nilsson or simply Nilsson. The peak of his musical career was in the first half of the 1970s, and it was then that the singer's most memorable and well-known songs were written. In 1971 he released an album entitled Nilsson Schmilsson, it was the best disc of this artist's musical career. And it was this album that was promoted by the single Without You, which I would like to present to you in this post. The song itself is surely known to everyone, it is a classic, not much, it is a classic at its best. The original song was written and released a year earlier by the band Badfinger. I personally, although I may be ashamed to admit it, associated the hit "Without You" exclusively with the singer Mariah Carey. Only over time as I began to take more interest in music did I learn that her rendition was simply a cover of a song she had heard in her youth. Her version of the song or Mariah Carey - Without You was also a very big hit around the world. But coming back to the hero of our entry, Harry Nilsson in the early 70's was mostly known for his hits such as Everybody's Talkin' and "I Guess the Lord Must Be in New York City" from 1969. A year later, when he heard the song "Without You" at a party, he thought it was one of the songs by the band Beatles. However, he quickly explored the topic and realized that he was wrong, and at that very moment decided to record his own version of this hit and include it on the new Nilsson Schmilsson album he was preparing. Eventually, a single with this song was released in December 1971, and it turned out to be a very big hit not only in the US. The band's original rendition of "Badfinger" didn't gain much such popularity, little did the song itself later become the cause of quarrels and tragic events in the lives of its authors. You can read more about these events in an earlier post here Badfinger - Without You. I personally like the version presented here better than its original and what do you think? Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any music video for this song, however, I invite you to listen to the hit song Harry Nilsson - Without You yourself.
