Music video description
Queen - Radio Ga Ga Ga is a song by British rock band Queen, the first track on the album "The Works" (1984). It was written in 1984 by Roger Taylor. It was performed on tour from 1984 to 1986 (the last tour during Mercury's lifetime). According to the songwriter, the inspiration for the song was the chatter of his then three-year-old son: "radio bu bu". Hoping it would be good material for his solo album, he showed it to his bandmates. Freddie Mercury, after reviewing the song, concluded that it was a great opportunity to create a big hit. Bassist John Deacon and guitarist Brian May agreed with Mercury's opinion and Taylor completed the song with the rest of the band, thus abandoning the solo version. The song owes some of its popularity to a music video that was innovative for the time. Part of the music video is in black and white, while the other part is in color. In addition to a whole range of special effects, the members of Queen used elements of Fritz Lang's 1925 German film "Metropolis" during its production. In the first part of the video, the members of the group drive a car of the future (Mercury and Taylor in front, Deacon and May in the back). In the next part, Mercury, wearing a red costume from the past, enters a chamber with a clock and moves its hands, singing the song all the while. After a while, the silhouettes of the other three members of the group (Taylor, May, Deacon) appear. Most troublesome was the scene from the song's chorus, in which the band members, along with the crowd, rhythmically clap their hands. For a long time the musicians could not manage to synchronize the applause.
