Music video description
"Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is a song from the repertoire of English pop-rock band Tears for Fears. The song was written by Roland Orzabla, Ian Stanley and Chris Hughes, who is also responsible for the production. It was first released on March 18, 1985, as the third single from the band's second album titled Songs from the Big Chair. The song's lyrics are about the human desire for power and control over the world, and the theme of corruption also comes up.
Critics received the hit song "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" very warmly, praising it and including it in their decade lists. The song was quite successful on the international charts, placing second in Australia and the UK, Canada, New Zealand and the US, for example. Nigel Dick is responsible for directing the music video, and the clip was shot in Los Angeles, a London studio, a desert in Southern California, and the Salton and Cabazon Sea of 1985. HuffPost editor Daryl Deino included it in his list of the best music videos of the year, arguing that the band proved that you can really do a lot with very little. The hit also won the award for best single at the "Brit Awards."
