"Wipe Out" is a song from the repertoire of the band The Surfairs. The song was very popular in 1963, when it was released. Its authors are Bob Berryhill, Pat Connolly, Jim Fullera and Ron Wilson. Over the years, the song has appeared in more than twenty films and television series. It also spent as long as four months on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the summer of 1963, ranking second. Without a doubt, it was one of the most popular instrumental songs of the time.
The song "Wipe Out" was written during a band meeting at Pal Recording Studio in California. One of the men suggested that it would be good to enhance it with sounds imitating a surfboard breaking, which turned out to be a very good idea. The Surfaris was formed by a group of teenagers, and the hit "Wipe Out" was inspired by the song "Bongo Rock" from Preston Epps' repertoire. Many covers of the song were created, and the most popular versions belong to the bands The Beach Boys, The Bantures and Jimmy Thunders.
