"The Ballroom Blitz" is a song from the repertoire of British glam rock band The Sweet. The song was written by Nick Chinn and Mike Chapman. The single was very popular in Canada (No. 1 on the charts), Australia and the UK (No. 2 on the charts), reaching No. 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
The hit song "The Ballroom Blitz" was inspired by an incident on January 27, 1973, when the band The Sweet was performing at the Grand Gall in Kilmarock, Scotland, and there was some throwing of bottles with various liquids inside. The song was recorded at Audio International Studio in London and released as a single in September of the same year. Although the song appeared in both the American and Canadian versions of Desolation Boulevard, it never made it onto the band's UK-released album The Sweet.
