The song received platinum status from the Recordins Industry Association of America for the results of more than 2 million copies sold. The song "Play That Funky Music" also reached the 93rd spot on Billboard magazine's 2018 All-Time Top 100 Songs list, while becoming the group's only release with a spot in the US Top 40.
