"The Marriage of Figaro" is a four-act opera buffa with music written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The premiere took place in Vienna on May 1, 1786. Although Mozart only lived for 35 years, he managed to leave behind several hundred pieces that sparkle with wit and are distinguished by Mozart's famous lightness and tunefulness. "The Marriage of Figaro" was not favorably received by the ruling classes of the time, due to its critical overtones.
